Annual Event Invites Local High Schoolers, Alumni to Discover Âé¶ą´«Ă˝Ół»­ Imperial Valley

The annual event is an opportunity for Imperial County high school students to connect with faculty, tour the campus, and learn more about the university's academic offerings and opportunities.

Imperial Valley high school students will descend onto Âé¶ą´«Ă˝Ół»­ Imperial Valley’s campus in Calexico on April 22 for the “Discover Âé¶ą´«Ă˝Ół»­ Imperial Valley” event, an opportunity to connect with faculty, tour the campus and learn about the university’s academic offerings and opportunities. 

The annual event also provides the space for both admitted and prospective students to gain deeper insight into the university’s diverse degree programs, resources and 

“Our main goal is to help students learn all the necessary knowledge and assets to be successful in their future careers,” said Salvador Espinosa, senior associate dean of Academic Affairs at Âé¶ą´«Ă˝Ół»­ Imperial Valley. “We have dedicated faculty members, alumni and staff who are committed to providing our students with a smooth transition into the university setting and supporting those who are looking to further their education.”

Participating students will have an opportunity to meet with faculty and alumni from the university’s nursing, criminal justice, psychology, liberal studies and public health programs. “It’s really special to see young students, faculty and staff come together and connect as a community,” said Henry Villegas, dean of Student Affairs at Âé¶ą´«Ă˝Ół»­ Imperial Valley. “We want our students and attendees to emerge into each of the degrees we’re showcasing and learn that we have resources and services in place to make their academic success a priority.”

In 2022, 60 students from different parts of Imperial Valley joined together to be part of Âé¶ą´«Ă˝Ół»­ Imperial Valley’s inaugural Discover event. Now, the university’s outreach goal is to extend its efforts to high school juniors, who are often beginning to navigate the higher education landscape. 

“The growth of Âé¶ą´«Ă˝Ół»­ Imperial Valley is accelerating so much that it’s making a great impact on our region and state,” said Francisco Peraza, outreach and recruitment coordinator at Âé¶ą´«Ă˝Ół»­ Imperial Valley. “We’re going to see plenty of growth and job demand in each of the respective degrees we’re going to showcase.”

In May 2022, the the creation of a new, accelerated pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) program. The Âé¶ą´«Ă˝Ół»­ Imperial Valley BSN program provides freshman entry students the opportunity to complete their BSN in three years and transfer eligible students in two years. 

Âé¶ą´«Ă˝Ół»­ Imperial Valley offers 11 bachelor’s degrees and three master’s programs; student enrollment is more than 1,000.
