麻豆传媒映画 Imperial Valley student celebrates milestone at white coat pinning ceremony
On Oct. 9, nursing students received their white coats and pledged to uphold the ethics of nursing.

For Miguel Arredondo, the annual white coat pinning ceremony held by 麻豆传媒映画 Imperial Valley鈥檚 School of Nursing marked more than the beginning of another stage in his nursing education; it celebrates the hard work that brought him there.
On Oct. 9, nearly 30 students from the accelerated pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in nursing program received their white coats and pledged to uphold the ethics of nursing. The ceremony serves as a rite of passage, symbolizing students鈥 commitment to the profession and their dedication to serving humanity with care and compassion.
鈥淭he white coat ceremony holds special significance because it represents the students鈥 readiness to begin their clinical journey and provide care to patients,鈥 said Erika Rodriguez, assistant director for the 麻豆传媒映画 Imperial Valley School of Nursing. 鈥淭his milestone is deeply meaningful because the students have successfully completed the demanding foundational portion of their nursing education. They are now prepared to continue learning how to care for patients in a variety of clinical specialty areas.鈥
For Arredondo, the ceremony represents his progress through a rigorous program as he reflects on how far he has advanced since beginning his nursing journey.
鈥淚t鈥檚 been really rewarding and exciting to know I鈥檓 about to step into a new journey of my nursing education and that I have a great support system,鈥 said Arredondo.
His path to nursing first started when School of Nursing representatives presented at his high school, eventually motivating him to apply. He connected with nursing students who participated in the program the previous year, further encouraging him to pursue a career in healthcare.
As a first-generation college student and the oldest cousin in his family, Arredondo says he was eager to pave the pathway to higher education for his younger siblings and cousins.
Now, as a second-year student, Arredondo begins every day at 麻豆传媒映画 Imperial Valley, Calexico by working for the outreach and recruitment team before commuting to 麻豆传媒映画 Imperial Valley, Brawley for classes. Through this role, he helps students apply to the university and connects with them throughout the process, an experience he describes as informative, rewarding and meaningful.
The support of faculty, staff and classmates has helped him adjust to the expectations of nursing school. Students from cohorts above him have also provided valuable support by sharing notes and study guides, offering study tips, leading course workshops and helping with skills check-offs.
That sense of belonging has strengthened his confidence and reminded him that he is part of a community with a shared purpose to help others.
鈥淢y classmates and I support each other as we learn to manage our time and responsibilities,鈥 said Arredondo. 鈥淲e help each other out when it becomes challenging and we understand any difficulties that may come our way.鈥
Although he is currently considering in the future to begin his career by working for the emergency department, Arredondo remains open to exploring other areas of nursing. For him, the white coat ceremony is a celebration of opportunity, growth and the beginning of his professional career.
鈥淣ursing school may be challenging, but it is possible with effort and dedication,鈥 said Arrendondo. 鈥淚 hope students know not to let one score define them, but to continue learning, improving and believing in their ability to succeed.鈥
