Before the first Pac-12 whistle blew, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Magazine wanted to know what gets the Aztec football team locked in before kickoff. Here are 13 superstitions and routines that stood out.

Nathan Acevedo
WIDE RECEIVER, SENIOR
If I don’t listen to the song “Oceans and go to the 13-yard line and pray, I feel like my games are usually bad.
Lucan Amituanai
EDGE, REDSHIRT FRESHMAN
I have two braids, right? My dad used to braid my hair for every game, right before I went to school. I’ve probably been doing that for like three years now. Whenever he comes to my games this year, 100% we’re doing that. Whenever that happens, I know I’m ready.
Josiah “Jojo Cox
SAFETY, SENIOR
Every game day I for sure get in that Jacuzzi before I go out there. Then I gotta run around the field before the game with no socks on for the grass.

Jayden Denegal
QUARTERBACK, SENIOR
I touch every pylon before the game.
Aldrich Doe
WIDE RECEIVER, JUNIOR
I usually like to juggle before games. I do that a lot. Either tennis balls or lacrosse balls.
Max Garrison
SAFETY/SLOT RUNNINGBACK, SENIOR
My coach in high school who passed away was a really big part of my life. Before the kickoff prayer, I write his initials into the turf, then I say a little quick prayer to him and ask him to watch over all of us. No matter where I’m at or no matter what stadium it is, I have to do that.

Sione Hala
LINEBACKER, SENIOR
I’ve got to have my playlist—the same four or five songs, and then some smelling salts right before I get in the game just to wake up my body.
Justius Lowe
WIDE RECEIVER, JUNIOR
I have to call my mom. That’s No. 1. And I gotta say a prayer. Always.
Jason Oliver
CORNERBACK, SENIOR
I don’t step on the white lines before the game. And I always have to listen to some country music before I play. Morgan Wallen has been my go-to.

Solomon Davis
SAFETY, JUNIOR
In the mornings of game days, I always eat rice and eggs, a banana and grapes. I always keep my breakfast and my meals the same.
Jamison Starks
CORNERBACK, SOPHOMORE
I have to go for a drive. I feel like every time I went for a drive before a game, I had one of the best games of my life. So definitely gotta drive.
Kai Wallin
EDGE, SENIOR
See my mom before every game and give her a hug. If she’s not at the game, then sending her a picture or calling her, something like that. I also have a pre-practice and pregame routine: walking two laps at the field. It has to be twice.

Michael Levelle Watkins
OFFENSIVE LINE, SOPHOMORE
I always eat two bags of candy. No matter what, I eat some Trollis or Gushers or something. And then I got to drink pickle juice before a game.
